Review:
I'm going to start off by saying wow! McAdams is a new author to me and if all her other books are this good I will definitely be reading more of her in the future. This book is book 2 in the series but it could be read as a standalone.
The story was well written and absolutely worth staying up for. McAdams starts this story by it going back and forth to the past and the present.
Harlow who is 15 meets an 18 year old Knox. Although Knox knows she is young he falls in love with her almost immediately. These two bond and start a very special friendship with it clear that when she turns 18 they will be together but things happen that cause them to take different paths.
Harlow ends up in an abusive relationship and can't get out. Not only does her husband beat her but he threatens her family and to keep them safe she stays. Harlow still loves Knox but they haven't seen or spoken to each other in over 4 years. Now that Knox finally found her again he doesn't want to let her go and more importantly he wants to keep her safe.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters and learn the history between them all. Harlow was a heroine I loved. She was protective and yet broken by someone who claimed they loved her but she still was determined to get away and get her life back. Knox was just awesome. He was kind, sweet, loving and just a all around great guy. Some of the things he did and said had me just swooning all over the place.
Warning: Before you start this book you should be warned that there is a lot of abuse and it is detailed and some scenes might be difficult for some readers. Yes Knox and Harlow do get together again and love one another but there are parts in this book when they are with other people. Okay with that said ...
This story has dual povs of how things happened in the past and present day which I loved but sometimes I would get confused with it going on. What I mean is for example it would start out with Harlow in the past and jump to her in the present before it went to Knox in the present and jumping in the past. I hope that makes some kind of sense lol.
Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I was happy with the ending and the events that went along with it. I still couldn't get over what a massive ass and crazy person Harlow's husband was and some of the horrible things he did to her. This story was real, emotional and left me wanting to read more about these amazing characters.
Every woman needs a man like Knox in there life!
