Guest Post & Giveaway with Author Stacey Espino

Today I want to welcome Author Stacey Espino! *waves* Welcome Stacey and Thank you so much for stopping by to visit with us.

Why do we love bad boys?
I find my readers always fall for the bad boy in my books.  The question is why?
In Taming Jenna, most of my readers preferred Conner.  He had a damaged past, personal demons, and wasn't looking for love.

In Catch Me If You Can, they liked James.  He was a messed-up cowboy who hated the world and himself.  He pushed away serious relationships, and didn't offer apologies for his behavior.

Are we gluttons for punishment, pushing away men who want to coddle us in exchange for a damaged man we have to fix?  Why does an alpha male who craves dominating his woman turn us on?
Personally, I think many women want a bad boy who is generally good with underlying redeeming qualities.  Maybe it's the mother in us that wants to fix him, or help him have a happily ever after—with us.  Or it's the dormant little girl we all possess that wants to be dominated, protected, and cherished.
What kind of hero do you prefer in your books?

  6. Oh Heck...I married the bad boy (tattoos and all). I wouldn't change it for the world. The world may cross the street when he walks down it to avoid him, but he makes me feel safe and loved.

  7. We all love bad boys, but not if they're really and truly evil. We just like 'em bad. Think John Travolta in Grease or Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise. That kind of bad.

  8. I wonder if this holds true for M/M stories? Do certain guys go for the bad boy as well? I'll have to read more M/M and M/M/F. Purely for research, of course.

  9. I think we're drawn to bad boys because of the element of danger but I think for the most part that we don't really want an "evil" bad boy but do want someone who will take charge...depending on how the characters are written....I can go either way ...good guy or the bad boy....lol

  11. I love a little bad boy in my heroes too. An alpha male with a great sense of humor who thinks the sun rises and sets on the heroine’s shoulders.

  13. Stacey's books look and sound hot.

I love an alpha male hero who respects women and thinks they're capable. Just read a book where the alpha hero treated the woman like a child and that left an unpleasant feeling in me.

  15. I get the appeal of bad boys but I like the bad boy who is really intelligent and sensitive underneath. A little tortured is good too!
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  18. Personally I don't like cowboys...smell like horses and unwashed sweat? Ew. And I had enough experience with bad boys in real life to last a lifetime. I used to call it the "romance novel syndrome" when my friends would fall for guys who abused them, but they'd always forgive them, thinking the love of a good woman could change them...why? Who knows? But it never worked.

So give me an alpha male hero, but only if the heroine is even more alpha than him, so he knows his boundaries. I also like beta heroes who don't have to have the last word all of the time. And with relationship abuse being so rampant, I don't understand the whole BDSM thing being hot. Any man who ever tried to hit me would be singing soprano!

And in real life my man towers over me by a foot, we both have tattoos, and he is my safe harbor. I'm the "bad girl" that he tamed!
