LET'S GIVE 'EM SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT . . . If gossip is the lifeblood of a small town, then Lizzy Logan has been its beating heart. After being dumped by her fiancé for another woman, she could have decided to crawl under a rock. But no, she'd rather really set tongues wagging by "moving on" with one of the hottest cowboys in Texas, who happens to live next door at the Lucky Penny Ranch. Those busybodies don't have to know it's actually all pretend. And just because Lizzy has no aim to tame her wild, blue-eyed neighbor doesn't mean she can't enjoy the ride of her life.
Toby Dawson never was and never will be the settling-down type. But what harm could there be in agreeing to be Lizzy's pretend boyfriend? They'll put on a show for a few weeks and be done. Yet the more he gets to know Lizzy-really know her-the harder it is for him to keep his hands off of her in private. Soon this rough-and-ready cowboy is hoping to heal Lizzy's bruised heart and turn their fake affair into a true romance . . . Review:
I love small town romance stories while everyone is close and neighbors help neighbors there are still many people who gossip too much and the stress that there town won't survive. This is the first book I have read from Brown in this new series and from the very beginning I was hooked!
In this story we meet Lizzy and Toby who are the complete opposite of what each other goes for but this couple ended up working really well together.
Lizzy was recently dumped by her preacher on her sisters wedding day for another woman. After that Lizzy decided she wasn't going to be that girl who did everything her ex wanted and started to become the woman she wanted to be. At her sisters wedding she ended up in the arms of her sisters husbands sexy brother Toby. These two quickly start sleeping together but when Lizzy's sister announces she is having a girl Lizzy knows that sleeping with Toby will have to come to end.
Toby has a reputation of being a player and is fairly new to this town and just wants to work on the ranch with his brother. Since they just bought this land he is helping give it a go to make their dreams come true. No knows that he and Lizzy have been secretly hooking up but when she needs a fake boyfriend to prove to her ex and everyone else she is over him he is willing to stand in. Before you know it Toby is ready to make their relationship very real but he only hopes Lizzy feels the same.
I really liked these characters. I thought they were very, likable and had the right amount of sass. I also really liked how close Lizzy was to her family. They stood together and no matter what had each other's backs. Some of towns people who were judge mental and annoying I could have done without but in a way they helped shape the story to be what it was.
As for the plot there is something about the whole fake relationship turning into real relationships that captures my interest every time. I thought Brown did a excellent job in having these two characters change in so many ways and yet still have them come together so perfectly in the end.
After reading this I'm definitely looking forward to the next book!
