Oxford #1
Lauren Layne
Releasing Oct 6th, 2015

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.
Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

Review:
Finally Cole!! Okay so confession time. I haven't read all the books in the Stiletto Series but I promise I will get to them, but ever since I was introduced to Cole I just loved him.
Layne writes another compelling love story that I couldn't put down. Cole has been a freelance editor for Oxford and now he is looking for a more permanent position. The only problem is that someone else is after the job he wants.
Cole and Lincoln go to a Yankees game but Instead of the game he is caught staring at a brunette. Finally Cole comes face to face with the woman who is trying to take the job he needs.
I actually loved Penelope. At the beginning of the story I felt for her being in a strange city and not having any friends so when she asks Cole for coffee and he doesn't answer right away I felt kind of bad for her since she just wanted a friend and she hoped Cole would be a good one since they liked the same things.
As much as these two tried to remain friends you can see the attraction between these two and at time the jealousy that comes out in them both. I thought these two got along so well and I think that had a lot to do with how much alike they were.
I have to say I never thought Cole would fall but the way he acted with her was just sweet. Walking her home, wooing her with onion rings, and stealing kisses. Layne picked the perfect person for Cole.
I enjoyed catching up with the characters of the Stiletto series because they were so much fun to begin with but I loved how they made Penelope feel so welcome and accepted.
In this story we got some Lincoln and oh boy you can tell his story is going to be good! Not only is he sex on a stick but something happened in his past and when he talks to Cole at the end he seems haunted. I can't wait to read it!
If you haven't read these books I suggest you do. They are filled with entertaining characters and wonderful happily ever afters.
