Q & A with Author Cynthia Sax

Today I want to Welcome Cynthia Sax !!! Welcome Cynthia!!
At What age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
Cynthia Sax: Ive always written since I could hold a crayon. I wrote daily in a diary until I was a teenager. Then I started writing for blog sites. I was asked to write for a daily and a weekly newspaper and that was when I first discovered I could earn an income from my writing. Coming from a long line of manual laborers, it blew my mind that I could be paid for words.

What is the process on how you create your characters?

Cynthia Sax: I usually start with one aspect of one character and then build around this. With Breaking All The Rules, I knew Camille was a rebel child. She has green hair, piercings, tattoos. Why would she look like this? What does she want from life? Why is stopping her from being in a happy, loving relationship?

Do you have any plans to venture out and write different kinds of romance books in the future? If so what kind would you be interested in writing?

Cynthia Sax: I
ll always write erotic romances. I like the blunt language (no purple helmeted warriors or blossoming flowers) and I believe that sex is an important part of any romantic relationship. I have explored different subgenres (Contemporary, SciFi, Paranormal, Post Apocalyptic Light) and different romantic pairings (male/female, male/male, ménages, ménages plus). My most natural stories to write are male/female contemporary erotic romances.

I know Authors work hard but when you aren't writing what do you do in your down time?
Cynthia Sax: LOL Down time? Does that exist for writers? Right now, Im writing story 7 in Sinful Rewards, my 12 novella serial releasing from Avon (the first story releases in July). I havent been outside the house in two weeks.

This might sound totally silly but what made you pick green hair for Camille?

Cynthia Sax: That is a GREAT question and I
m so glad you asked it. (big excited hugs) Camille aka Goth girl is a woman of contrasts. She rebels yet is the most loyal friend a woman could wish for, breaks rules yet lives by her own personal code, pushing people away yet yearns for love. It made sense that she would have a hair color that exists in natural (with plants, birds, and lizards) yet is unnatural for people. She also has a deep connection to the Earth (again, contrasting with her love of technology).

I have read a few of your books and the ones I have read all have men in a power position. Is this something you planned on writing about or did the story just come together that way?

Cynthia Sax:  Before I switched to writing full time (thanks to the support of my dear, wonderful, hard working hubby), I played in business, helping to develop new products for big corporations. I worked along side and pitched to top level executives. They
re the people I know and understand so its easy to write about them. Im also happily married to an alpha male, a very talented salesperson. Hes my real life romance hero.

Do you imagine maybe writing a series one day?

Cynthia Sax: I always think in series. Once I enter a world, I love to explore it for a while. Breaking All The Rules is part of the Blaine Billionaires series. The previous stories are The Seen Trilogy (He Watches Me, He Touches Me, He Claims Me) and Flashes of Me. Camille makes an appearance (and trouble- grins) in all of these stories.

Who are some of the authors you enjoy to read if you get the chance?
Cynthia Sax: This is where I get into trouble because I cant possibly list all of the writers I read and enjoy. (Please note: Romanceland is a very small place so almost all of us know each other and I consider just about every writer to be a friend.)

I enjoy reading romances by Laurann Dohner (Fury from New Species is MINE, all mine), Christine dAbo (her Gilded Hearts steampunk series ROCKS), N.J. Walters (Im waiting impatiently for Wolf At The Door from her new Salvation Pack series), Eve Langlais’ Freakn’ series, and oh boy, the list goes on.

I started sending my stories to publishers to help pay for my reading habit (I speed read and read a romance novel a day).

You have written about many characters. Do you happen to have a favorite one or one that was more fun to write about then the others?
Cynthia Sax: Camille, the heroine from Breaking All The Rules, is definitely one of my favorite characters. She was with me throughout the entire series, making trouble, and I couldnt wait to hear her insights. I cant believe some of the things she thinks and says!

I can honestly say I enjoy your writing!! Do you have anything else in the works now that all your readers can look forward to?

Cynthia Sax: Awww…. Thank you (another big hug). I’m currently working on Sinful Reward, a 12 novella serial with the first story releasing from Avon in July.

(looks around) I don’t know if I’m supposed to share the premise yet but we’re all friends here, right?

 Here is Sinful Rewards…

Good girls are rewarded, that’s what the mysterious text message says, and cash strapped Belinda (Bee) Carter is a very good girl. She has previously only fantasized about the increasingly naughty tasks she’s challenged to complete. The incentives are too decadent to resist. The sexy assignments appeal to her inner bad girl. The sender knows her better than she knows herself.

Who is leading her into temptation? Is it the reclusive billionaire businessman with the wicked past, the tattooed leather-clad motorcycle-riding former marine, the aging high-class escort searching for a protégée, or a stranger Bee hasn’t yet met? Why is this person targeting her, what does he or she want, and will Bee be able to walk away with her good girl reputation and her heart intact?

Thank you so much for coming by and we are looking forward to reading Sinful Rewards :)

  1. Yay! Thank you for interviewing me! Please forgive the typos. I have serious book brain (when a writer is in the middle of a story and she's trying to figure out a major plot point).
