Review:
Hold Me is the sixteenth book in the Fool’s Gold series by
Susan Mallery and she does not disappoint. Fool’s Gold draws you in and makes
you just want to stay there forever. Mallery has a real talent in writing her
characters that not only makes them likeable, but makes them come to life from
page to page.
After a horrible accident ends his professional skiing
career, Kipling is still getting used to small town life and it is beginning to
really agree with him. He ends up a partner in The Man Cave Bar and is asked by
Mayor Marsh to head up their Search and Rescue team. I loved how the guys
wanted to have a bar where the guys could go drink, talk and watch sports. That
was a nice treat since the ladies of Fool’s Gold have their own place to go. It
was a nice touch to the story. I really
liked Kipling. Not only is he smart and sexy, but he has a special way about
him. He is always wanting to fix everyone’s problems, but even some problems he
is unable to fix.
Destiny is in town to train the Search and Rescue team on
her company’s software program. Since she goes to towns and only stays in each
place for about three months at a time she doesn’t really have relationships or
friends for that matter. Since she arrives she starts to make good friends and wondering
if settling down with her half-sister Starr here in Fool’s Gold is the right
choice. I loved how Destiny really grows as a person throughout the story and
stops running from the issues she has with her family and wants to help not
only herself, but Starr as well.
From the beginning of the book you can see the chemistry
between Kipling and Destiny from when they first meet each other. I loved Destiny’s
views on sex. It was absolutely hilarious.
She drew in a breath. “You’re
going to want sex, aren’t you?” He did his best not to smile. “Yes, I am.” ”A
lot?” “It depends on your definition of a lot.” She nodded, as if she’d
expected the answer. “I’m not going to like it, but you can do it whenever you
want. I won’t say no.” Now he did smile. “Thank you for that.”
I loved how Mallery brings in the characters from previous
books and keeps you up to date with what is going on in their lives. This town
is so close it just makes me want to pack up and head to Fool’s Gold. The path
that Mallery sends these two characters on made this even more enjoyable to
read. I really liked how these two found the happiness that worked for them. You
will not only get a wonderful journey to the road to love, but a few unexpected
surprises along the way.
This can be read a stand-alone, but trust me starting from
the beginning of the Fool’s Gold series will keep you coming back for more. I cannot
wait for the next book in the series. This series is truly addicting!
This is a mega long series, so I am trying to finish up some others before I tackle this one. I have the first book on my TBR. Great review. It is good to know that the series keeps up the momentum even in the later books.
