ARC Review Dark Taste of Rapture (Alien Huntress #6) by Gena Showalter

"New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter captivates with a dark, tantalizing world of humans, otherworlders, and a powerful AIR agent consumed by his desire for a woman he can never have. . . .
With one caress, he can give unforgettable pleasure . . . or unending pain. . . .

Hector Dean is shaved, tattooed, and totally ripped—and he has a deadly secret. He is a walking weapon, capable of killing with a single brush of his fingertips. Little wonder he’s determined to remain on his own. But Noelle Tremain is a temptation like no other. She is beautiful and rich, with a party girl smile that hides a shocking vulnerability, and from the beginning his sizzling attraction to her is undeniable. For the first time, his stone-cold resistance is tested. But to be with her, he risks destroying her.
When a wealthy businessman is murdered in New Chicago’s seediest district, the two are partnered, and there’s no escaping what they both want: each other. Yet neither Hector nor Noelle knows what to fear more—the killer case, or their own lethal desires. . . ."

The Dark Taste of Rapture is the latest installment in Gena Showalter’s Alien Huntress Series and believe me she brings in this book with a BANG! Since I loved the last book so much I was really curious to see how Noelle’s story would play out.  And to be honest I believe this is one of the best books in the series up to date.

Now the treat of this book is that it doesn’t pick up where Ecstasy in Darkness left off but starts before that book. So you get a good look into life before the hot McKell.  Noelle and Ava just arrived to begin their training for the AIR agency.  I happened to think this was a great move by Gena for the simple fact we get a better look into Noelle and her life. And surprise, surprise Hector just so happens to be one of the instructors teaching them become agents. When Hector first sees Noelle he is immediately taken back by her beauty.  Now even though he is intensely attracted to her, he has to fight his desires in fear he might actually hurt her.

Now let’s fast forward a year later to where Noelle is now an agent of the AIR. With Hector and her working together they bring some serious tension that you could cut with a knife.  And I am a big fan of the tension so this made me seriously happy.  The way Noelle baits Hector is more than funny, it will crack you up. She tends to give him a run for his money. Throughout the story I couldn’t stop laughing but then again it does have its emotional parts which I loved as well. Another amazing part is getting a better look into Hector and what makes him tick the way he does.

It had some really intense moments, action and of course how could I forget the romance. It comes of them like the beaming sun on a summer’s day.  I was impressed how the romance was built and it didn’t just happen overnight.  It took time for trust and feelings to build which is always a plus. For that I believe I was on edge the whole book wondering when things would happen between them and when they do it is explosive.

I loved this book and I am super excited to see who will be next in the series. My guess is Dallas but in this book there is no mention or hints given. Gena Showalter did an outstanding job and I hope everyone can enjoy this story as much as I did. Happy Reading!!

  1. Thanks for sharing! I love this series. I've been wanting Dallas's book since the 1st book. She is probably planning something crazy big with him & us followers will have to wait a while longer. Great review.

  3. I started reading this and the line where Hector can't even give himself relief because of his ability had me dying.
