Blamed Blitz & Giveaway with Edie Harris

Blamed by Edie Harris
(Blood Money #1)
Published by: Carina Press (HQN)
Publication date: November 3rd 2014
Genres: Adult, Romance, Suspense

Synopsis:
Born into a long line of spies, sanctioned killers and covert weapons developers, Beth Faraday carried out her first hit-for-hire when she was still a teenager.

That part of her life—the American spy royalty part—ended one year ago, with a job gone wrong in Afghanistan. The collateral damage she caused with a single shot was unfathomable and, for Beth, unforgivable. She’s worked hard to build a new life for herself, far away from the family business.
But someone, somewhere, hasn’t forgotten what Beth did in Kabul. And they want revenge.

As the Faraday clan bands together to defend Beth and protect their legacy, Beth is forced to flee her new home with the unlikeliest of allies—MI6 agent Raleigh Vick, the only man she’s ever loved. And the one she thought she’d killed in the desert

Riding the crowded train tucked against Vick’s side was crazy, stupid wonderful, spurring an insistent warmth in the region of her chest that had very little to do with how many layers she wore against the February chill.

Damn it. It would be so much more convenient to blame the scarf.

The train car lurched, causing a morning commuter to jostle her from behind. Immediately, Vick tightened his arm around her waist. After they had boarded the Brown Line at Armitage, he’d sandwiched her between his big body and a metal pole, using his forearm to steady her as he gripped the pole with a gloved hand. The entire left half of her body soaked up the heat from his tall, muscled frame, and Beth couldn’t help but heave a silent, melting sigh at the glorious perfection of him.

Though he was entirely too perfect, in her opinion. She missed the gap between his front teeth, sighed over the loss of his bruiser’s nose. The scar on his cheek she actively mourned, because to her, it hadn’t been a flaw but a badge of honor. He’d earned it saving her life, and then he’d kissed her silly. It was all she could do not to reach up and trace her gloved fingers over its faded echo.

But his body…well, she was woman enough to admit she preferred this heftier build over the zero-percent-body-fat look he’d been working hard back in the day. After being treated to his shirtless torso all morning, she knew exactly what sort of care he put into his fitness, every minute spent at the gym evident in the taut muscle of his pectorals, the packed ridges of his abdomen, the bulging curves of his biceps. But there were bitable parts to him now—firm flesh at his ribs she could dig her fingertips into, the slightest hint of softness hiding beneath his navel and the happy trail that disappeared into the waistband of his trousers.

She wanted to nuzzle the spot until he was a panting, twitching mess.

I needed something—something big—to get myself out of the rut I’d fallen into after the car accident that killed my sister. This sailing trip was meant only to mark a new chapter in my life. Until Ethan Williams stepped on board.

Ethan radiated confidence. His darkly handsome good looks and ocean-blue eyes mesmerized me. But it was the way he looked at me that drew me in. He wasn’t looking at my past or at my scars, but the real me behind all that baggage I was trying so hard to leave behind.

But Ethan had secrets—dark, dangerous secrets. I was trapped in the middle of the ocean in a tangle of lies, sex, and violence. The problem was, I was happy to be trapped forever…if it meant I could have him.

1.  What would you say are the defining characteristic of your novels?

All my novels have a touch of intrigue and suspense, and usually there’s a twist people don’t expect. I haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly why, but a lot of reviewers call my books “different”—in a good way, I hope!

I also always have protective heroes. There’s just something about a hero that will do anything to protect his heroine that gets me every single time.

2.  What traits are most important in a romance heroine?

Inner strength, intelligence, and a strong spirit.

3.  What are the 5 best things about being a writer?

(5) Working in PJs

(4) Making my own hours

(3) Being able to travel to amazing places in the name of research

(2) The feeling of writing “the end”

(1) Being able to escape into my characters’ worlds for hours at a time

4.  If you were a heroine in a book, your character would be (a) the girl next door

(b)the damsel in distress

(c) kick-butt take charge heroine

(d)the aloof ice queen

I’d like to be them all! But I’d probably be (a) the girl next door...boring, I know!

5.  How do you conquer writer’s block?

I just write through it. I think to myself, “You’re writing crap. It makes no sense. It’s horrible. But you’re writing it, and you’re not going to stop.” Invariably, I read it later on and always find there’s something I can work with.

Kate Triumph Blitz & Guest Post with Shari Arnold

Kate Triumph by Shari Arnold
Publication date: October 16th 2014
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

Synopsis:
Normal is so overrated. At least that’s what seventeen-year-old Kate Triumph tells herself everyday. But the truth is she lives in constant fear that someone will discover how not normal she really is. With her startling speed and her unusual ability to heal, Kate believes she’s something of a freak.
Then Andrew Shore arrives.

He claims he’s her father, sticks around for a few days and leaves her a plane ticket. “Come to Mercer Island,” he says. “Give me a chance to get to know you.” Soon Kate is floundering in a world of new: new address, new car, new high school and, of course, new father. Not to mention Zack, her intriguing new neighbor, who makes her want to abandon her steadfast rule of never allowing anyone to get too close. But when she discovers someone is trying to kill her, life for Kate gets a bit more complicated. And a lot less normal.

There is always a story behind the story when it comes to writing a novel. With KATE TRIUMPH I was actually working on something completely different when her name popped into my head. The name was so strong and intense I knew she had to be something special. My husband thought the name sounded like some kind of super hero but I didn’t want to write a super hero. I wanted her to be amazing but I also wanted people to be able to relate to her.

And then it hit me. What if James Bond had a daughter? What if she was stronger and quicker and all the things you’d have to be to do the things a spy would do, and yet she’s living in the real world. Oh, and she’s seventeen. I knew she’d have an overprotective parent, one who wouldn’t want anyone to know about her abilities, and that Kate herself would feel like a freak.

And once I knew these things I immediately had to abandon what I was originally working on and move on to KATE. She was that insistent. When I finished the book I thought I was done. But that wasn’t the case at all. She made it clear she was edgier and a bit more vulnerable. Her sense of humor needed to come through as well. Kate is definitely one of my favorite characters I’ve written. All those years of watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Veronica Mars definitely paid off. She’s spunky like Veronica and intense like Buffy. Not to mention she will always win in a fight.

Excerpt:
Matt heard her sharp intake of breath and wondered if he’d misjudged his attempt at lightening her mood.

There was a second in which he opened his mouth to explain, when there was a shifting in the air around him, and just as his lightning instinct had him reaching for his weapon, a soft projectile thwomped into his face, knocking him backward and off the bed.

“No one makes fun of my pain without incurring the wrath of the pillow ninja,” she hissed.

Relief and outrage vied for pole position as he immediately planned his revenge. He let out an agonized groan.

“Oh my God.” He heard her scrambling over the bed to the foot where he’d fallen from. “I’m so sorry, did you hurt—”

He reared up, wrapping his arms around her legs, and launched her back onto the bed. She bounced like a rag doll as he grabbed the cushion he’d taken from the lobby and swiped at her as she tried to right herself.

“Ooff,” was the only thing she managed to say.

Victory is mine. “Truce?” he asked from a safe distance.

“My hand is caught in the headboard.” She giggled. “I swear it’s not a trap. I’m an honorable foe, unlike you. Look, or feel.”

Still keeping his distance, he put out his hand where he thought her shoulder should be. It was soft. Heat rose in his body.

“Okay, airman, it’s not my breast that’s trapped, it’s my hand,” she said with a totally audible grin.

“Sorry.” He thought he would run his hand up to her shoulder, then her arm to find her trapped hand, but it seemed all his appendages had minds of their own. He hesitated on her breast, feeling it swell beneath his palm. Shit. He stretched his hand out so just the center of it was touching her, and he circled it around her nipple. Its hardness tickled his palm. He meant to move it to her shoulder, but he swore he heard her groan. The sound sealed the deal.

His other hand found her flat stomach. He ran his fingers over her skin, making her shiver. “Does your hand hurt?”

“No,” she whispered. It was a tacit yes to everything else.

He lowered his lips to her stomach and kissed her, feeling it undulate beneath his lips. Kneeling on the bed now, he ran his hands up and down from her waist to her legs, legs to waist, and then with the same motion, he hooked her shorts around his

fingers and yanked them down. She gasped. He grinned in the dark.

“You’re kind of at my mercy now, aren’t you?” he said.

In an instant she wrapped her legs around his waist and tipped him over onto his side. Before he could recover, she rolled him over and sat astride him.

“I’m sorry? What did you say?” In the shadowy darkness she whipped off her tank. He could barely see her in the dark. No way. Nakedness or death? He grabbed her waist and held her as he sat up and pushed her down toward the foot of the bed. He

used the few seconds he was upright to flick open one side of the curtain covering the small window. A faint blue light lit the room. Just enough to see her in.

“I guess you weren’t really that trapped, then?”

“Not that trapped.” She smiled up at him, and he was gone.

He ripped his shirt off over his head and was about to undo his jeans when Harry beat him to it.

Her delicate fingers played with his fly, flickering touches on his hard dick through the denim. Grazing her nails along his length until he was desperate to feel her friction. As if she read his mind, she flattened her hand and pressed hard against him, making him groan and push himself against her.

She undid his fly, and when the heat of her fingers touched his flesh he closed his eyes and allowed his whole body to feel her.

Enough. He wanted her, right now. Stripping off his jeans, and managing to extract a condom from his wallet without fumbling, he retook the bed. He slid his whole body across hers touching every part of her with every part of him. She fit him perfectly. In every way.

Shades Of Chaos Tour & Giveaway with Alexia Purdy, Cameron Jace, Chrystalla Thoma, Katie Salidas, Megan Duncan

Guest Post

The First Kiss, by Alexia Purdy

The first kiss in Reign of Blood is sort of awkward. It’s not lasting, it’s short and quick, almost confusing, because it’s April. She’s the definition of awkward, indecisive and loves to deny herself any kind of fulfillment. She’s doom and gloom, always expecting the worst of the world, just like a warrior who has been there done that around so much death. She knows the deal. So why would the first kiss be any different?

“I wanted to know him, to know who he was before the outbreak, what he did, what he liked and what had made him happy. I didn’t want to feel this way about anyone but I knew that it was now too late to stop it.” ~April

As you can see, April wants Rye, badly. But oh how she fights it to the last drop of life. She’s so determined to not fall in love, she tells herself she doesn’t really want it. If you’ve read the story before this point, you’d find out just why she does this. How’s that for denial? This kiss doesn’t revolve just around her and Rye, it involves everyone and everything that she’s loved and lost to this point in the apocalypse. So why assume love is a good thing in the after world? She sure as heck doesn’t. But then…

“His lips came closer as his words left them, brushing against mine. My lips burned at his touch.

Desperately our kiss deepened. Our lips sought out one another like a desert plant seeking out the slightest drop of water.”

So she does want him! Aha! I love to show readers how confused this girl is because, she is. She’s a teenager for crying out loud. One that has faced death more often than a kiss from a boy. How does one adjust to that kind of world? It’s kind of crazy so her reaction, though frustrating and also unexpected, is actually a more natural reaction to her situation in that alternate universe than it would be in our normal mundane world.

But of course, it ends in a most different way than most kisses. But to that, I’ll let you read it for yourself….

I see him.
I gasp.
Our eyes meet.
Damn! Colton Stark is looking right at me.
And I’m looking right at him.
Fuck.
Wait, that’s good. That’s what I want. That’s what I’m doing here, right?
Just didn’t think it would happen so fast.
I can’t help but look at him for longer than I should. He’s wearing a dark shirt and pants with a navy blazer. His clothes seem to glisten, or maybe it’s the lights.
The stubble is in place. His hair is messed up without being messed up, if that makes any sense.
His eyes are deep. His posture is commanding. Much taller than the pictures suggest. 6’3” I’d guess. Maybe 6’4”.
Zing!
No, Sofia, not here!
